Steps to file a car accident claim 14/7/2011

Car accidents are a mundane occurrence
When a car accident happens it can pose a problem due to several reasons: it\'s a mental and emotional trauma, brings with it serious injuries and can catch you off guard from the financial point of view. You should be well prepared and have the necessary information ahead of time.
Although accidents occur by the millions all across the Globe every single one resembles the other but the details which caused it are completely unique. This negative experience can be overcome through preparation and diligence. In more cases than not, the parties involved in the accident have an argument and don\'t seem to agree on the details in which the accident took place.
The purpose of a car accident claim

When you find yourself involved in an accident you will make use of your insurance. If you are insured you will be able to discuss your grievances with your insurance agent and then proceed to file a claim against the opposite party, more specifically their insurance company to solicit compensation for their negligence.

Timing is of the essence. The sooner the car accident claim is filled the better. It is usually done right after the moment of the accident while the details are still fresh in your memory. Once the vehicles have been towed, the roads have been cleared, you have reached a safe location, went through a thorough medical examination the moment has come to file a car accident claim.

If the cause of the accident remains unclear then both parties will file claim against each other. Both parties will be deposed and if the facts correspond, and the accident is decided in your favor, you may still not be eligible to receive car accident compensation.

When filing a car accident claim determine the extent of the damages to your vehicle.

With this goal in mind you will need the following: your car insurance to know what type of protection your policy offers, a written testimony on behalf of every eye witness on the scene, shots from traffic cams, the police report, a signed medical release, the bill for towing and the one for storage, three value appraisals if the vehicle or vehicles got totaled, and an estimate on the repair costs for both vehicles involved in the crash.

While contacting the insurance agent to present your case, verify he has the correct information such as, your name, address, telephone number, and the vehicle make and model. You will need to set up a list detailing the extent on the damage to your property prior to contacting the agent. Include on this list any other items you had with you in the vehicle at the moment of the accident (cell phone, camera, and luggage).

While your agent works on settling the car accident compensation you can ask for a substitute vehicle if you require one in the event your policy offers rental reimbursement coverage.
